Medical CardCertain dental treatments are available to people with a medical card but only for people aged 16 years and over. A GPV only card does not cover dental treatment. A medical card entitles you to only one free check up per year. It is important not to underestimate the benefits of having your oral health checked even once a year. However twice a year or more is beneficial to many A medical card will cover extractions, 2 urgent fillings per year, provided that the same tooth has not been treated within the last 5 years. Some extractions may need to be referred through the HSE system to the appropriate clinic. A medical card will cover root canal on front teeth, and dentures but only if approved by the HSE. Routine scale and polish is covered once per year. Limited treatment of gum disease is covered but only for people with certain medical conditions and only with approval of the HSE. If you have a dental infection, you can get a prescription with your medical card. |
PRSI One check up per year is covered by those who qualify for PRSI dental benefit and has now been extended to the self employed. It is easy for us to check those that qualify so please ask if you are unsure. Do not underestimate the benefits of having your oral health checked once a year although twice a year is generally recommended Those who qualify for PRSI will be entitled to a reduction in the price of their scaling or periodontal treatment once a year from Oct 28th 2017. The reduction only applies to the scale and polish or the periodontal treatment but not both. For example if it the best treatment plan for you, you may be entitled to a full check up, and scale and polish for just 15 euro once a year in this practice. The benefit will only apply once a year and you cannot repeat it if you have already claimed the benefit with another dentist in the same year. Further details to follow |
Other claimsGarda med aid, Dental insurance and med 2
We will provide and fill out Garda medical aid forms for you, Decare Forms and Med II Please note Garda Med Aid no longer covers check up or dental scale and polish. Med 2 forms are only needed for complex dental treatment such as root canal treatment and crowns/ orthodontics etc A med 2 form is for your own records and can be used as an aid when filling out a Med 1 form. All relevant medical expenses are filled out the Med 1 form including dental so your med 2 form should be kept as proof in case of a revenue audit. |
